“Multi-Purpose Port/Terminal of The Year 2020” HIP recognised at Global Port Forum 2020 Nominee Awards
The Hambantota International Port won recognition at the Global Ports Forum Awards 2020 recently held in Dubai.
The port was conferred the nominee award for “Multi-Purpose Port/Terminal of The Year 2020” at a prestigious Awards Dinner held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai last week. The distinguished panel of judges included senior port experts from the Global Ports Council and customers of Global Ports.
Chief Guest at the event H.E. Mohammed Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economics and Trade of UAE & former Group CEO of Dubai Ports World, presented the award to HIP and was received by Sylesh Peerez, General Manager Operations of HIP. The port won double honours at the ceremony with Mr Peerez being awarded “The Port/Terminal Professional of The Year 2020”.
Global Ports who is committed to improving the interests of ports globally through collaborations among members of the port ecosystem aims to recognize the most valuable contribution made by organizations and professionals in different areas of the Industry. Ports, Terminals and Professionals within the industry are awarded for their achievements in different categories. Awards are based on nominations received by the committee as well as important achievements and milestones of organizations and professionals during the year.
Sylesh Peerez, General Manager Operations speaking about his win, said that he was honoured to be recognised by such an eminent awarding committee. “Global Ports Forum awards follow a well-defined selection process award winners under each category. The Jury which is made up of industry experts from around the world make detailed deliberations detailed deliberations discussions, and only then is consensus reached. I am honoured that I passed the stringent process and qualified for this award.”
Ray Ren, CEO of HIP said that HIP winning the nominee award for “Multi-Purpose Port/Terminal of The Year 2020” is a recognition of the milestones the port has achieved to date. “Our full range of services include container handling, general cargo, Ro-Ro, passenger, bunkering, bulk terminal, gas and project cargo.
