HIP Laugfs Ship-Shore Fire Drill

2022-02-03

The HIP Energy Services (ENS), Emergency Response Unit (ERU), Port Control & QHSE teams jointly conducted a ship/shore emergency fire drill in collaboration with Laugfs Maritime and Laugfs Terminal. The drill held at the port’s oil berth No1 simulated a fire that broke out in a vessel’s cargo manifold as the emergency scenario.

Oil and gas terminal activities are highly vulnerable to unforeseen emergencies and the objective of the drill was to enhance awareness, that will help combat and mitigate such crises. The drill was also a tool to improve current combat strategies, and provided participants with practical knowledge and hands on experience on how to control an emergency within a minimum time frame. They were also made aware of emergency medical evacuation techniques and escape routes that could be used in such a situation.

Outcomes of the drill will be further analysed, and used to enhance current emergency procedures (SOP’s) to protect life and property at HIP. All health procedures were strictly adhered to during the fire drill.
